🗳️ Ward wins final term as Gainesville mayor
The Gist: Mayor Harvey Ward won nearly 80% of the vote for a fourth and final City Commission term. Casey Willits kept District 3 with 54%, Nathan Crabbe won the open District 2 seat with 62% of 7,593 votes, and Bryan Eastman was unopposed in District 4.
Why It Matters: The results settle four commission seats that will shape Gainesville decisions on housing, taxes, infrastructure and the continuing GRU governance fight.
What's Next: Ward, Willits, Crabbe and Eastman will be sworn in for four-year terms in January 2027.

🛣️ County roads face $15.6 million annual funding gap
The Gist: Alachua County spends about $26 million a year on its 700-mile road network but now estimates it needs $41.6 million annually just to hold the average pavement score at 60 out of 100. The county’s road backlog stood at $408 million in 2022.
Why It Matters: Most residential roads are outside the current 10-year project list, leaving more drivers with worsening pavement and recurring potholes despite four repair crews.
What's Next: Commissioners directed staff to expand maintenance with new hires and contractors. Residents can report road problems at rbmaintenance@alachuacounty.gov.

🎬 Mac’s Drive Thru documentary lands at Netflix
The Gist: Netflix acquired “One Last Order,” a short documentary following Sighle Williams through her final shift after 37 years at Mac’s Drive Thru. The film won top jury or audience honors at festivals in Aspen, Miami and Nantucket this year.
Why It Matters: The acquisition gives a Gainesville institution and one of its longtime employees a national audience after a standout festival run.
