At 502 S. Main Street, Tinker Latin Street Food serves Venezuelan arepas, tequeños and hearty Latin plates. Tinker and Antonella launched it as a Gainesville food truck in 2019, opened the downtown restaurant in 2020 and added Tioga in 2024.
Pabellón arepas come packed with shredded beef, black beans, sweet plantains, cheese and house sauce. Bandeja paisa and churrasco handle bigger appetites, while fresh-squeezed lime and orange juice carry over into cocktails made without concentrate.

🍛 UF ends Krishna Lunch's 55-year campus run
The Gist: UF terminated its agreement with Krishna Lunch on Aug. 19, ending nearly 55 years of free vegetarian meal service on the Plaza of the Americas. The decision came six months after a Krishna Lunch box truck hit a student; UF said the agreement allowed immediate termination with or without cause.
Why It Matters: The ban removes a low-cost campus meal tradition that Krishna Lunch says has served millions and drew more than 1,500 petition signatures for reinstatement.
What's Next: Krishna Lunch is serving from 214 NW 14th St., while three local attorneys work pro bono on a possible federal religious-freedom lawsuit.

🚲 $1.5 million East Gainesville trail opens
The Gist: A nearly mile-long, nearly 10-foot-wide multiuse trail along Northeast 31st Avenue opened after a $1.5 million Wild Spaces Public Places investment. It connects residential and commercial areas to Unity Park and Flatwoods Conservation Area.
Why It Matters: It is one piece of more than $100 million the city says it plans to invest in East Gainesville, while residents continue calling for grocery stores, youth programs, affordable housing and stronger schools.
What's Next: The trail is planned as part of the larger Eastside Loop, which would extend south to University Avenue near Fred Cone Park and Hawthorne Road at Southeast Eighth Avenue.

🧾 Trash and stormwater charges move to tax bills
The Gist: Beginning Oct. 1, Gainesville will shift stormwater and residential solid waste charges from monthly GRU statements to annual property tax bills. The stormwater assessment rises from about $139 to $151 a year, and a 20-gallon trash cart will cost about $368 annually.
Why It Matters: This is a billing change, not a new tax, but homeowners will face larger once-a-year bills and higher rates instead of spreading the charges over 12 GRU payments.
What's Next: The assessments take effect Oct. 1 and will first appear on November 2026 property tax bills.
